What counts as duplicate reporting

Two or more tradelines representing the same underlying debt. The original creditor reporting a balance after selling the debt. Two collectors reporting at the same time. The same collector reporting the same debt under two account numbers.

How to spot duplicates

Match by original creditor name, original balance, and date of first delinquency. Account numbers will differ across collectors but the underlying debt should not appear twice with a balance.

How to dispute

File a dispute citing duplicate reporting and reference Metro 2 standards. Send to each bureau where the duplicate appears, and to each furnisher. Certified mail preserves evidence.
