Editorial Policy
How we research, write, review, and update Strategic Credit Institute's credit education content.
Our Educational Mission
Strategic Credit Institute publishes educational content to help consumers understand how the U.S. credit reporting system works, what their rights are under the FCRA and FDCPA, and how to take informed action with their credit files. We are not a law firm and our content is not legal advice.
How We Create Content
Every article is researched against primary sources — the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Metro 2 reporting standards, and published guidance from the three nationwide credit bureaus. Drafts are written by our editorial team, reviewed for accuracy, and only published once they meet our internal compliance bar.
How Content Is Reviewed
Finance-sensitive articles are reviewed by an assigned compliance reviewer before publication. Reviewers check that the article cites authoritative sources, avoids guaranteeing outcomes, and clearly labels educational content. The reviewer's name and the last review date appear on every reviewed article.
Sources We Use
We prioritize: the CFPB, FTC, federal statutes (FCRA, FDCPA, ECOA), the Credit Reporting Resource Guide (CRRG / Metro 2), and official bureau documentation from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Sources cited in an article are listed at the bottom of that article.
Update & Accuracy Policy
Finance and credit content is reviewed on at least a 90-day cadence. When laws, bureau procedures, or our recommended workflows change, we update the article and refresh the 'Last Updated' date. Substantive changes are noted in the article body when they affect prior recommendations.
Compliance Disclaimer
We do not guarantee removals, deletions, or specific credit score increases. Results vary based on the underlying facts of an individual's credit file and the responses of furnishers and credit bureaus. Nothing on this site is legal advice — consult a licensed attorney for legal questions about your specific situation.
